Signed away half his inheritance to Ottoman terms in 1590, rebuilt the army, and took it all back. Shame is a currency; time is the purchase.
Customers finance evictions
Ormuz, 1622: no navy, so he hired the toll's angriest customer. A chokepoint falls when removal becomes cheaper than compliance.
Kill revenue quietly
A thousand technical deaths: the insurer declines, the flag lapses, the inspector finds reasons. Nothing announced, nothing to march against, no foreigner to blame.
Aim at the succession

The record
1590
The Treaty of Constantinople: ceded the northwest to the Ottomans to free his hands. Bought a decade and spent it on the army.
1598–1605
Rebuilt the state around a professional corps outside tribal loyalty, then took back everything ceded, province by province.
1622
Evicted Portugal from Ormuz with the East India Company's ships, paid in silk concessions and customs shares. Deleted the toll rather than inheriting it, and built Bandar Abbas in its place.
